Michael Jackson's This Is It - In Theaters

I went in to see Michael Jackson’s This Is it without any expectations. Initially, I was reluctant to go as I did not want to “feed the beast," that is the media frenzy surrounding the death of Michael Jackson. With that said, I did however, want to see the footage. Honestly, I could have watched it in its rawest form, without editing. I don’t need the hype and glamour to appreciate his creativity that others might. This movie captures a side of Michael that the general public may not have seen, his depth as a person and his total commitment to performances.
One thing is certain, Michael Jackson was a perfectionist. He knew what he wanted in his upcoming shows from top to bottom, from the notes to the dancing. It was fascinating to watch Micheal at work during the creative process. A proverbial peek behind the curtain. Even when he had to reprove someone he would do it “with love." The film shows each song that was to be performed at the concert in its creative process, what the vision was, but mostly smoothing out the performances. It is important to note that this film is a documentary and not a concert movie.
I also witnessed mentorship in this movie. One scene in particular really struck me as endearing. In his rehearsal with the guitarist, he was trying to explain how he wanted her to play. She asked no questions only trying to do as he was asked. Then he told her, “It’s your time to shine" and not to worry because “We will all be right here with you.” I am sure that meant a lot to her to hear him say that, and that really sums up how Michael approaches his collaboration with other artists. They are all really trying to learn something from him and produce the best show possible.
This film is important, and will help to cement the legacy of Michael Jackson as an unprecedented entertainer. It is worth seeing at the theaters, but may be even more treasured as a DVD, depending on what extras are provided.
Michael Jackson fans will obviously enjoy this film the most, but anyone who appreciates art in any of its various forms can find value in this film as well.

Thanks for the review I want to see more than you reviewed. Micheal Jackson was a kind soul that wanted to make a difference in the world but the world wasn't ready to be kind to him or hear what he had to say that's why he started with the man in the mirror.
